About Finnish Biobank Cooperative – FINBB
Finnish Biobank Cooperative – FINBB is an internationally high-standard biobank network that progresses expertise-driven health and well-being improvement by using advanced science and technology opportunities. FINBB aims to harmonize Finnish public biobank research infrastructure, functions, and practices. FINBB’s goal is to increase biomedical research in Finland. Our mission is to bring Finnish public biobanks’, hospital districts’ and universities’ biospecimen, data, related data warehouses, expertise, and patient recruiting available to research projects.
FINBB is a cooperative owned by the six largest hospital districts and universities in Finland and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). FINBB members are six regional hospital biobanks (Auria, Borealis, Central Finland, Eastern Finland, Helsinki and Tampere), Arctic Biobank at University of Oulu, and national-level THL Biobank, part of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).
Since January 2020, FINBB has been the national coordinator of the European biobanking network BBMRI-ERIC. All eleven Finnish biobanks are involved in the network activities.
